Botox for Excessive Sweating:
One of the major advances in the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) has been the use of Botox and its approval by the Health and Protection Branch of Canada for this indication. The most common areas injected are the axilla (armpits), and the hands or feet. Hyperhidrosis has been shown to affect approximately 1-3% of the Canadian population and has a significant impact on their quality of life. Underarm sweating frequently disrupts a normal social routine and can affect one’s choice of wardrobe due to the profuse sweating.
Botox is injected in very small quantities just under the skin, in the armpit region. Topical freezing is usually applied beforehand to minimize discomfort. Most clients do not find the procedure uncomfortable as the smallest of needles are used to deliver the medication. The treatment usually takes 20-30 minutes to perform. Clients can return to work immediately following the procedure.
Usually the Botox starts working within a few days of injection and brings significant relief to the vast majority of clients. Botox injected into the armpit regions will on average, last 6-7 months with some clients having good results for over a year.
The cost of Botox for excessive sweating is covered by most medical insurance plans. Our office charges the following fees to do the injections.
Axilla (Armpits) - $250
Face and Scalp - $350
To facilitate coverage there is a form to be filled out “Botox Access Form” which will speed up the insurance process such that you may be able to have treatment the same day. The Botox Access Program explains how the process works. Please read over both of these documents, print the Botox Access Form, fill it out and bring it in when you book your appointment at the office so we can process it the day of your treatment.
