Another summer has come and gone and the dog days of August are now long behind us.Our fall newsletter focuses on our latest technology available, the Pro-Fractional Laser and also on the newer investigational uses of Botox in the treatment of migraine headaches.

ProFractional Laser:
One of the exciting new focal points in our clinic has been the introduction of our new laser – the ProFractional. This is the most advanced laser technology for the treatment of aging, acne scars and a means to improve the tone, texture and quality of the skin. This laser will replace the Fraxel technology and will offer faster, much more comfortable treatments with less downtime. Most of the clients have found the topical freezing cream prior to the treatment has given enough anesthetic therefore eliminating the need for other medications. When comparing our previous Fraxel to this new technology our client’s are finding the process much less painful with less downtime overall.

Pro-fractional treatment stimulates new collagen production and therefore brings about gradual improvement in tone and texture. ProFractional is designed as a treatment regime of 3-5 sessions performed once monthly. A consultation is required to determine your suitability for this procedure.

Migraine suffers:
BOTOX® is the most recent advance in effective treatment of migraine & tension headaches. Some recent studies show up to 75% of patients experience substantial migraine relief following injections of BOTOX®, lasting four to six months. This helps to reduce dependency on expensive medications and time off work.

How does it work?
One possibility is that muscle tension may act as a trigger for a migraine in the same way that light and odors do. By reducing muscle tension, Botox would be eliminating an irritant to the nervous system, which would then reduce the chances of a migraine developing. More recently, studies have shown that Botox may affect other nerve cell signaling systems that have to do with the perception of pain. In an animal model of pain, injection of Botox under the skin resulted in decreased response to painful stimuli. Traditionally, scientists have thought that the pain of migraine was due to swelling and inflammation of blood vessels, but perhaps muscle tension is more of a factor than previously appreciated.
